Times are tough, especially for the kinds of seasonal jobs normally occupied by young people and students. In many ways those jobs are subject to sudden shocks; for instance many such jobs in Toronto have been put on hold due to the strike of city workers. There are still, however, some jobs that, while perhaps not fully “recession-proof,” are still available for young people.

It’s summertime, which means holiday time. That’s real holiday time, actual divorce from work time. No reading work email, no reading trade journals, no checking voice mail, the old crackberry turned off.

No one likes giving a presentation, or explaining some point in a meeting, only to realize the person they’re addressing is doing their email. But perhaps more importantly, obsessive use of these gadgets is unhealthy.

These are difficult times. When recessions bite it’s sometimes a bit more challenging to be confident. But to overcome these challenges, and that’s by being more confident than ever. Here are some exercises that can help!
